It was a great matchday for Urawa, Sydney and Pakhtakor in which the first 2 got their qualification to the next stage while Pakhtakor remains in contention for a place in Round of 16.

There will be a new champions thanks to the fact that Guangzhou Evergrande won but it wasn´t enough to progress to the next stage, the fact that the current ACL champion can defend their title or even qualify to the round of 16 remains certain.

Meanwhile it was terrible for Japanese champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima, they lose vs Shandong and said good bye to the competition, Jiangsu, FC Tokyo and Jeonbuk remain in contention for a place in the next stage

The draw benefited both teams who progressed to the next stage, Sydney FC made history by finally qualifying to the Round of 16 for the 1st time in their history while UrawaReds reach this stage for the 1st time too, i the previous format there wasn´t no Round of 16 so in 2007 when Urawa Reds won their group qualified directly to the quarterfinals and in 2008 as the title defenders they started from the quarterfinals too.

Its the 1st time that in this new ACL format Urawa qualify for the Round of 16.

Curiously Urawa Reds and Sydney finished in in the same way that they finished in their group in 2007, Urawa Reds won their group while Sydney finished 2nd.

AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers Playoff draw

This draw will see rematch between Tajikistan and Bangladesh who met in Round 2, 1-1 in Dhaka and 5-0 the Tajiks won in Dushanbe and also 10 years ago in the AFC Challenge Cup final where Tajikistan became champions

Also there will be another rematch between Malaysia and Timor Leste.

The winner of each pairing (total five teams) will advance to the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers Final Round while the remaining five losing teams will join Bhutan in Qualifiers Playoff 2 (6 teams).

In Qualifiers Playoff 2, the 6 teams will form three pairings and play home and away matches against each other and the winner of each pairing (total 3 teams) will advance to Qualifiers Final Round.

Bhutan, meanwhile, were drawn against the loser of the Qualifiers Playoff I match between Tajikistan and Bangladesh. In this case all seems to be Bangladesh like the loser team because their record against the Tajiks have been always losing against them.
