UEFA Champions League 2016-17 Round of 16 preview: Sevilla vs Leicester City

Club Brugge KV v Leicester City FC - UEFA Champions League

A very interesting duel will take place in this stage, for one side is Sevilla who are the current Europa League champions and fighting for qualifying for Europe for the next season and Leicester, the English champions who aactually are not having a good season so far, they lost recently vs Millwall in the FA Cup and n the Premier League they are fighting for not to be relegated, now they have this unique chance to clean their recent bad performance and they hope to make a good match against Sevilla

Its the 1st time that both teams play each other

Leicester won their group (Group G) with 4 victories, 1 draw and 1 lose while Sevilla finished 2nd in their group behind Juventus

The most far that Sevilla has gone in the Champions League was in the 1957-58 in the then called European Champion Clubs’ Cup  when they reached the quarterfinals and they were eliminated by eventual winners Real Madrid

Sevilla have played against 3 Spanish clubs and  vs Leicester will be the 4th,they have played before vs Liverpool, Tottenham and Middlesbrough

Leicester have played only against 1 Spanish club but in different competitions, first was in the European Cup Winners Cup and then in the UFEA Cup, this happened vs Atletico de Madrid and now vs Sevilla will be the 2nd Spanish club that Leicester will play.

Leicester has joined the list of modest teams that because of their performance has caused a big impact on European football and they were called “Cinderella”

Leeds United, AS Monaco, Stade Reims, Eintracht Frankfurt, Saint Étienne, Bayer Leverkusen, Villarreal CF, FC Nantes, VfL Wolfsburg, Malaga CF and Sturm Graz are one of these teams that went as far as possible in the UEFA Champions League or when it was known before as the European Cup
