AFC Cup 2017 Group stage Wednesday action

Central Asia, Asean and East zone

It was a day of historic victories for Altyn Asyr, Boeungkey and April 25, a day to remembere for these 3 clubs.

Historic performance for Altyn Asyr from Turkmenistan getting an amazing 2-1 away victory in their 2nd consecutive participation in the group stage and Istiklol began their campaign with the right foot after winning 2-0 at home to Dordoi

For both Kyrgyz clubs it wasn´t a good start because they lost, one at home and other away but Dordoi is a strong team at home and they will be aiming to get their first victory in the next match

In the Asean zone Boeungket recorded an historic home victory 2-0 in their debut in the competition against Magwe from Myanmar

In the South zone Maziya won in Bangladesh 2-0 vs Abahani, this was the return of Abahani in AFC competitions, the last time they played was in 2013 in the now defunct AFC President´s Cup. They follow the footsteps of Shaikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd who played last year in this same stage.

In the East zone it was an amazing comeback from a North Korean club in an AFC competition, the last time that a club from North Korea featured in an AFC competition was in 2014 in the now defunct AFC President´s Cup where Rimyonsu reached the final only losing it vs MTTU from Turkmenistan

April 25 had a dream start in their debut in the AFC Cup winning 6-0 to Erchim from Mongolia in a group where for the first time in the history of the competition and also of North Korean football, 2 clubs from that country are part of the same group, (Group I) the other is Kigwancha. The last encounter between North Koreans and Mongolians was also in the 2014 AFC President´s Cup in Sri Lanka where Erchim suffered a heavy defeat against another North Korean club like Rimyonsu, 5-0 was the score in favour of Rimyonsu.

One of the most attractive groups is about to start, traditional powerhouses will clash like Istiklol and Dordoi and also Alay who is their 2nd appearance in the competition and Altyn Asyr who will try to surprise everyone and aim to progress to the next stage.

2 teams that oftenly played the now defunct AFC President´s Cup will now meet in the AFC Cup, for Dordoi its the 1st time that are playing the group stage stage while for Istiklol this is their 4rd consecutive appearance in the group stage.

EPIC VICTORY!!!!

The fairytale continues! The dream is still alive! Its an historic day for the current English champions as they defeated Sevilla 2-0 and won 3-2 on aggregate to qualify for the first time to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

These group of players have entered the history books by reaching the quarterfinals, they are total heroes and deserve to be always remembered by all the hard work they did and they are still doing because the campaign doesn´t ends, they are still fighting to escape from the relegation zones in the Premier League , with the arrival of Craig Shakespeare everything changed for better but it was a nice gesture from Craig to dedicate this victory of Leicester vs Sevilla to Ranieri because Claudio was the man who built this team and who guided them to the place where they are now.

Kasper Schmeichel was the hero of the tie, he saved 2 crucial penalties, each one in both matches, he saved a lot in Sevilla too

Wes Morgan put Leicester in the lead in the first half and then in the 2nd half Albrighton with an amazing shot sealed overturned the score and did the impossible, put Leicester on the lead in aggregate score and after that came the penalty for Sevilla that Kasper Schmeichel saved and became the man of the match in my opinion, without that save and of course if the penalty would have been converted then Sevilla would have qualified to the quarterfinals.

Leicester are the first English side to overcome a first leg defeat against Spanish opposition in the Champions League knockout stages since Chelsea in 2005 (v Barcelona).

The last time a debutant club reached the quarterfinals was Malaga in 2012-13 and now they have equalled that and they aim high want to go as far as possible

On the same day of Leicester victory but 16 years ago Leeds United got a 3-3 draw vs Lazio in the second group stage of the UEFA Champions League (2000-01) and with that result Leeds qualified to the quarterfinals.
